YOUR FEARLESS GUIDE TO MARDI GRAS 2019

CELEBRATIONS HAVE ALREADY BEGUN AND WE ARE HIGHLIGHTING SOME OF THE KEY EVENTS, EXHIBITIONS AND PARTIES TO CHECK OUT THIS WEEKEND!

Starting back in 1978 on a cold night in Darlinghurst, Mardi Gras begun. Following this defining night for Sydney's gay community, the festival started to boom with the introduction of the post-parade party. Media coverage and crowds continued to swell to see over 500,000 attend Mardi Gras in the mid 90's. Throughout the late 90's and early part of this century, Mardi Gras continued to grow in spectator numbers along with an increase in the quality of the events and the scope of the festival. Its themes each year represent the issues of the day and encourage marginalised groups to join a larger family of supporters.

THE ARTS

For those who are up for a bit of an ‘arty’ weekend, check out the ‘Impressionism Revisited’ Exhibition by artist Stefan Kater. He highlights the loving and beautiful shapes and bodies of men and women framed by desire and compassion; the adoration of beauty and strength. With a weekend full of self-expression, Kater’s work is sure to inspire.

BEN'S CHINO GUIDE

Originally inspired by military wear, chinos are more formal than jeans but aren’t as formal as a dress pant. They are a must-have for every man’s wardrobe as they can be dressed-up or down to suit the occasion.

STUDIO SESSIONS

Since its inception, Ben Sherman has always had a close affiliation with the music and style of the 1960s. Irreverent musical landmarks were the birthplace of ground-breaking recordings that captured hearts and minds of the impressionable youth kicking off cultural and style-led revolutions, many albums and artists whose musical genius and style evolution still hold relevance to this day.

The Series | FT. TORA

Last but by no means least in our three part ‘The Series’ project, a curated collection of inspirational individuals, we talk to the talented TORA. As seen in Oyster Magazine.
