BEN'S CHINO GUIDE
Originally inspired by military wear, chinos are more formal than jeans but aren’t as formal as a dress pant. They are a must-have for every man’s wardrobe as they can be dressed-up or down to suit the occasion.
Whether you’re looking for chino pants to wear to a formal occasion or something more casual, we’ve pulled together our top looks for your upcoming events!
The Summer Chino
The warm weather alternative to jeans is undoubtedly the chino and with things heating up, we have put together your ‘how to’ for chinos this summer.
Long gone are the days that chinos only come in khaki colours, so don’t be afraid to add a pop of colour to your chino pants and pair back with a classic t-shirt in a more neutral colour palette – summer is definitely a great time to be experimental with different colours!
Our signature chino short is the Holy Grail for summer style, it can take you straight from an afternoon BBQ to a night on the town by switching up a polo for an oxford shirt.
The Office Chino
With more people working from home than ever before and some only recently transitioning back into the workplace it can be hard to know how formal to be. Personally we always think chinos are a better choice than jeans for pants to wear into the office. You can dress them down if your office has more of a relaxed feel by styling with a t-shirt or a buttoned-up polo and layering with a Harrington jacket.
Or if you are in an industry that typically wore suits to work but that just seems too formal now with all the changes in the workplace and less face-to-face client meetings, then a pair of slim chinos (regular or standard cut) and a formal shirt still says business without being too stuffy!
The Weekend Chino
Our chinos are made from 97% cotton and 3% elastane, making them soft and breathable but also giving them that slight bit of stretch so that they can be comfortably worn at different occasions throughout your busy weekend. That’s actually the difference between chinos and khakis, as chinos are typically made with lightweight cotton and have visible stitching giving them a more finished and dressy look.
But if you’re looking for a bit of a twist on the classic chino pant, then our new 'Canvas Trousers' have a relaxed tapered fit and are made from 100% cotton canvas. We love combining these men’s pants with a piece of lightweight knitwear and sneakers to create the ultimate modern menswear look…
The Wedding Chino
This one obviously depends on the dress code, but with weddings becoming more intimate and casual a chino can be a great choice for pants to wear to a summer wedding. Fit is really important at a special event like this as you want to create a more tailored and sophisticated look, so make sure you check out the different cuts and work out if a slim or skinny cut is best for your shape. Pair with a shirt and blazer to create the look.
